Becoming a Staff Member

Those interested in serving as Staff should know that this is not a glorious position, or one in which you’ll “finally get to do things your way” or give your buddies an extra hand in the game. Valindir has Game Owners who have the ultimate say in what goes on, and who place the greatest value on the Players themselves, not the Staff. Being a Staff member does not entitle you to bend or break the rules, treat Players as “little people”, or rain fire and destruction down upon those you don’t like.

Why be on Staff, then? What fun is it if you can’t tell your friends where the best weapons are, smack down idiots, or put top priority on the RP that you came up with?

Love of the game and a desire to see other Players having fun are the only reasons to want to be Staff. They’re the only things that will make some of the rudeness, the slow nights, and the long hours that are part of the job description worth it. As a Staff member, expect that some Players will assume that being friends with you means they get extra attention, that they can get away with more things, or that you’ll tell them “secret” information.

Does this mean that you should hide your identity and stop talking to anyone who isn’t Staff? Of course not. We’d be rather horrified if you did and frankly we’d suggest that you take some time off to put your priorities in order. What this means is that you’ll have to learn to say no to people, be an example, and develop a thick skin. If you think you can manage this, you’re head and shoulders above a good amount of people in the world.

Whether or not the nine Element positions are filled, Valindir is always on the lookout for new people to bring on to Staff. Those interested in applying should try to make sure they have the following qualifications:

* Knowledgeable about the game’s mechanics and its rules
* Knowledgeable about the game’s lore and contents
* A history of helping new players
* A strong set of ethics
* Manners
